Zoe Rabinowitz is a freelance artist and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Vermont, Zoe graduated from the Walnut Hill School for the Arts before earning her BFA in Dance from the Ailey/Fordham BFA program, with additional studies at De Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Holland and with Sali Matou Camara in Conakry, Guinea. She has performed with artists such as INSPIRIT: a dance company, JoAnna Mendl Shaw/Equus Projects, Kristina Isabelle, MBDance, The Movement Party, Nia Love/Blacksmith’s Daughter, Red Currant Collective, Sara Gurevich, Urban Bush Women, and Anne Zuerner. Zoe is a founding member and Executive Director of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre (YSDT), a multimedia performance company based between New York and Palestine. In recognition of her work as a leader in the non-profit field, Zoe was awarded a 2020 NYFA Emerging Leaders Fellowship and selected as a New York Community Trust Leadership Fellow in the same year.

Zoe is the recipient of a 2022 Brooklyn Arts Council Brooklyn Arts Fund. She was awarded a 2019 Lake Studios Berlin and 2017 Seoul Dance Center Artist Residency; a 2016 CUNY Dance Initiative Residency in collaboration with Khaled Barghouthi; and a 2016 Marble House Project Residency in collaboration with Galen Bremer. Zoe was awarded a 2015 grant from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund and was selected as a 2014 resident artist for the Dance Omi International Arts Center in Ghent, NY.

teaching

As a teaching artist, Zoe has offered movement workshops at Lake Studios Berlin (2019), Seoul Dance Center and Ehwa Dance Academy in Seoul, South Korea (2017), and for dance majors at Chungnam University in Daejeon, South Korea (2016). She has taught with Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), New York State Office of Child and Family Services Juvenile Detention Center (Staten Island), Staten Island Youth and Justice Center, Drew University (Madison, NJ), Roseland Performing Arts Academy (West Caldwell, NJ), and abroad at Chonbuk National University in Seoul, South Korea, Kobe Art Village Center in Kobe, Japan and the Haya Cultural Center in Amman, Jordan. Zoe has taught at Hunter College and Carnegie Hall with Maria Bauman/MBDance, and with the Movement Party at the Fleet Moves Dance Festival in Wellfleet, MA. Zoe is also a certified yoga and pilates instructor with classes at studios, gyms, afterschool programs and summer workshops, as well as with private and corporate clients throughout New York City.
